Providing access to Free Kindle books is perhaps the best gift Amazon is giving its customers across the world. I have been meaning to write this post since a very long time. Amazon changed the way you could do it a while ago, and now there is a new sequence of steps you need to actually reach or find a free Kindle book. you might still not be able to get to all of them – there are thousands Kindle books free each day – but you will at least be able to get the top ranked ones or the popular ones. And that’s saying something, isn’t it?
Find Free Kindle Books
So if you like to make your own choices, and have the time or interest to look through several books, here is how you can do it now on Amazon.
1. Login to your Amazon account. Why? If you want to download books, you will need to login at some point anyway. Plus some of the Kindle promos are region based, so unless you login you will not get the true price that applies to you. For Example, a book that is free in the US may not be so in Germany.
2. Now enter the name of any popular book in the Amazon search bar, say ‘Sycamore Row’. The book should have a Kindle edition. In case, you chose one that does not have a Kindle edition, choose another.
3. Out of the results displayed, click the correct one to go to the book page. Scroll down where you see the ranking of the book. Here, click on the line that says ‘Top 100 in Kindle Store’.
Sometimes Amazon does not display rankings for a given book. In this case, you need to go back and search for another book. In most cases, if you choose a current bestseller or a popular one such as say, ‘gone girl’, there will be a ranking for the book.
4. Now you are on the page that shows the Top 100 Paid Kindle books. But we are looking for Free Kindle Books. Click on the link that says ‘Top 100 Free’. Viola! You now have a listing of the top 100 free books. In order to get this ranking, a book needs to have thousands of downloads a day, which is proof that many people want it.
Even if you check the Top 100 Free Kindle books every day, you will have quite a collection for your ‘To Be Read’ list. Remember, Amazon treats even a free book download as a sale, so you OWN this book now.
But hey, it is human nature to want something more. Now that you got your hands on the top 100, maybe you want even more? There is a way you can search for the top free books in every category. I will show you how to do that. The possibilities are mind boggling.
When you see the rankings of a book, sometimes there are rankings for multiple categories. Clicking on those will show you the free books in that category. To explain this in more detail, please see below.
5. Click on Kindle eBooks.
6. Once all the categories are expanded, click on a category such as Mystery. You will see sub categories here. Clicking on each of these, you will see Kindle book rankings for this sub category! Now you just need to click on ‘Free Kindle’ again and you have access to the free books for say ‘Cozy Mystery’ or ‘Women Sleuths’ or ‘Police Procedural’ etc.
7. Not a mystery lover? The same method can be applied to romance books. You will get all sub categories such as Regency, Victorian, Contemporary etc. and you can make your choice.
Kindle Books are available in many categories, so if you are not a fiction lover, you can select other categories such as food, business etc. and take your pick.
Ready to Grab Free Kindle Books?
I hope you found these steps easy to follow. You can check these lists out once a week or periodically and grab anything that looks good. This way, you can have literally hundreds of free books on your Kindle. Most of the books will be by new authors so you have access to some gifted talent across the world.
