Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story
There is something wrong in the prohibition era New York. The wizarding world is uneasy and fearful of being discovered by the common folk. In midst of this turmoil, Newt Scamander arrives in New York with a briefcase full of wild magical creatures. His job is to protect these endangered creatures and find new ones across the globe.
But his secret won’t be a secret for long. When Kowalski opens the briefcase by mistake, the creatures escape into the human world and begin to wreck things. Struggling investigator Tina and Queenie join hands with Scamander to contain the situation before people find out what’s happening around them.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Reviews
With a near perfect score, the film is a must watch for harry Potter fans. The prequel has a bit of everything. Whimsical creatures, tense, dark moments, heart-warming romance, and fast pace.
Cinematographer Philippe Rousselot does an amazing job of capturing post economic crisis New York with perfect costumes and color palette for this adventure period drama. Eric Kohn of IndieWire gives the movie thumbs up as much for its story as for visual effects and calls it the one movie that could have made the poor Summer box office spectacular.
Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly, however, is not enthusiastic as most other reviewers. For him, the source material is too thin and the movie seems a bit too stretched out. Performances by actors other that Redmayne too leave a lot desiring.
But with a sequel already underway, the consensus seems to be that Rowling and Yates are able to capture their fans attention and deliver entertaining two hours in the cinema halls and in the magical world.
