Amethyst by Lauren Royal was a wonderful read. This book has been lined up on my TBR list for several months now. Amazingly enough, the Kindle version is still free, so get it now and save it for later. This book is set in the 1600s, a slight change from the usual Regency era.
Amethyst Goldsmith is a headstrong girl. She has learned the family trade – jewel making – well and is a skilled artisan. But the times are such that she needs the protection of a husband. She has been betrothed to Robert, who works as an apprentice in her father’s shop. Amethyst does not like him at all and detects a mean streak in his behavior.
Charles II is on the throne. He has rewarded his loyalists. Colin Chase finds himself the Earl of Greystone. He comes to Amethyst’s shop to buy something for his sister. The two sense an instant attraction but know there is a deep chasm between their worlds. Colin Chase is short on money and is trying to restore his estate using funds from his fiancée, a woman his family loathes.
There is a great fire in London that drives people out in hordes. Amethyst’s shop burns down and she loses her father. But she finds herself fleeing along with Colin. She spends time at his brother’s estate. Colin and Amethyst fall in love but there is a long road ahead before they can acknowledge their love. There are many twists and turns and shocks before these two can unite.
The book offers its share of passion, so lovers of hot romance should not be disappointed. The book does come with a ‘R’ rating.
Other characters such as Colin’s brothers and his sister are agreeable. Colin actually has the King’s ear. The story is well developed and will keep you turning pages. I am all ears for the next books in this series.
Amethyst is wholly recommended without giving a lot away, so that you can have your share of surprises while reading the book.
