Junior Doctors Series 4
Viewers follow the trials and tribulations of Anna, Osama, Omar, Emeka, Jin, Jo and Jess as they attempt to negotiate the challenges faced by junior doctors. From exhausting night-shifts to cardiac arrests; saving lives to delivering heart-breaking news, each doctor learns more about themselves and humanity than they could have ever imagined.
Anna: No one from Anna’s family works in the medical profession. She has a phobia of vomit. Anna studied medicine at the University of Birmingham and she is still working on building her confidence as a doctor. Anna lives with her boyfriend, who is a pilot and likes every excuse to dress up and make herself look glamorous.
Emka: Comes from a family of medics and from a very young age knew he wanted to be a doctor. Emeka is third in line to the throne in his province in Nigeria, where his paternal grandfather was King. Emeka prefers a night out at the ballet or the opera, than a night down the pub.
Jessica: Once of the five children in her family, Jessica was selected from a big pool of applicants from Malaysia to make it to med school in the UK so she’s proud to be through. She self-confesses to being a bit ditzy and can get things wrong and muck up at times!
Jin: He is the son of a Reverend at a Korean Community Church in London. He decided he wanted to be a doctor when he was 16 and is the first member of his family to go into medicine. He’s obsessed with rock music and his favourite band is Muse. He finds breaking bad news to patients and family members incredibly difficult – he is not a natural at consoling people.
Joanna: Joanna always wanted to be a medic. There were many doctors in her family – her father and both of her grandfathers. Joanna is originally from Stockport but moved to Birmingham to go to University.
Omar: Omar applied for medical school, but didn’t get in. He ended up doing a degree in Pharmacy and still wanted to be a doctor after he had finished his four years of studies. He applied again after his degree and then got in. Omar enjoys going to the cinema and spending time with his wife, who is a solicitor.
Osama: A local Wolverhampton boy, Osama studied in London for six years and then moved back to work at New Cross Hospital. Building a good relationship with his patients is very important for Osama; for him “laughter is the best medicine”.
