Dev DD web series is a story of Love, Lust, and Betrayal, but here the protagonist is ‘ a girl wilder than your imagination’. Popular media once again reinforces that being empowered equals being abusive and uncouth. And for the boys, every girl who has couple of drinks is fair game. However, many viewers have rejected this skewed version of being empowered, in response to the first few episodes. But the new ALT Balaji original will still attract rebellious teenagers and that reckless college population who seem to believe using cuss words is the ultimate form of rebellion and independence.

The show that launched on April 16 2017 is developed by Ken Ghosh and based on the age old story of Devdas. The series is produced by Ekta and Shobha Kapoor and is well into its first few episodes now. You can watch all Dev DD episodes online as they release.

Dev DD Web Series Story
The serial adapts Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas to a female protagonist. So instead of a boy who has lost his love, we have a girl who has been rejected by her boyfriend. The reason, of course, is that she is an independent girl. Independence defined by guzzling alcohol, smoking, having multiple sexual partners, and saying F*ck in every sentence.
The web series begins by framing Devika Dharam Trivedi, a Jaipur girl from a conservative family, as an independent no-nonsense girl. A girl who likes to say and see things as they are, without sugarcoating anything in the name of propriety.
After a few adventures of Devika, the story seems to progress to a point where she falls in love. She finds a partner who loves her and whom she cares for deeply. However, their union is thwarted by the boy’s family that prefers to have a Bahu who does not drink, smoke or use expletives in every third sentence.
