The trailer of the movie is enough to convince you of a fun couple of hours, and the movie does not disappoint. The peppy Alia Bhatt and persistent, rich but dumb Badri creates a picture that you must have come across many college campuses. The first half of the movie endears the audience to the lead pair as both hold their ground. Vaidehi’s dreams clash with Badri’s love till the end, but their on-screen chemistry and the pace of the movie keep you invested in the movie.
By the end of the first half, just when you think that the movie will take take a tried and beaten path, the story introduces a new twist. The movie never stops surprising the audience, and it never allows you to lose that smile on your faces.
It gets a bit Bollywood style preachy toward the end, but perhaps that is the only way to reach the masses and get the message across. Badrinath Ki Dulhania is about dreams, love, and respect. A thirst to fulfill your dreams, search for love, and fight for respect. It is a perfect release on Women’s Day that puts age old customs and beliefs at the center, but manages to give you a good laugh.
