Cross the Line Story and Plot

The book begins with Alex Cross investigating a case of road rage. Immersed in this investigation, Alex is informed of  a new problem – an officer has been shot dead in the streets of the D.C. To Alex’s surprise, the victim is chief detective and his wife’s mentor.




Bree soon steps-in into her boss’ shoes and now must also handle Alex at work. Their divergent thoughts on the investigation create strain at work and their personal life. But the criminals are still on the loose and the wave of killings is unabated.

Alex is struggling to find a break, when a potential pattern begins to emerge and the apparent road rage incidents take a completely new color.

With more than 300 ratings, Cross the Line from James Patterson has nearly seventy percent satisfied readers. Most readers like that the book follows the classic James Patterson trajectory and is interesting enough. The overall arc might be a little formulaic, but his fans will not mind this 24th installment of Alex Cross. Having said that, there are a couple of readers who think that the book is not as nail-biting as earlier books. But everyone seems to appreciate Alex’s involvement in his family life and the tensions there seem to provide an additional dimension to the character and story.
