Salute Siachen celebrates bravery of our soldiers in capturing and maintaining intimidating presence on earth’s Third Pole. Siachen Glacier bordering the Northern end of LOC with Pakistan is one of the highest battlefields in the world and also the most inhabitable.
The vast empty glacier had no human presence until 1981, when Indian Army and colonel Narendra Kumar unfurled the Tricolor on Siachen. Operation Meghdhoot was planned to correct the wrong depiction of the LOC on Pakistan and US maps in the 80s, post Shimla Agreement. Indian Army has unfortunately lost more soldiers to harsh weather conditions than to enemy in Siachen over the decades.
Eros Now launched ‘Salute Siachen’ expedition in August 2016 to salute Indian soldiers who live in the extremely cold conditions where temperatures an dip to -50 degrees Centigrade, with average snowfall of 35 ft. The expedition team includes people from all walks of life including Bollywood star John Abraham and Sports personalities like Yuvraj Walmiki and TV stars like Sonnalli Seygall.
