1. Sadhu Aur Shaitan

Mehmood was the star comedian of this era. He gave many humorous movies and some amazing short roles like that in Gumnaam.

Crime, robbery, chase, the movie is a comedy-thriller if there can be one. The drama and tension along with the series of funny situations make this movie gripping and enjoyable.

2. Golmaal

Utpal Dutt! This is one other versatile actor who has produced many gems. But once you watch him in his comedy avatar, I am sure all you can do is laugh whenever he comes on screen.

Like most of Hrishikesh Mukherjee films, Golmaal depicts a typical middle-class Indian family of the early 80s. A true Rom-Com, the movie is about Ramprasad Dashratprasad Sharma’s (Amol Palekar) quest to get the love of his life. He is well liked by the girl’s father, but the girl loves Lucky Sharma, whom the father hates. I bet you will laugh your socks off watching this classic.

3. Padosan

Kishore Kumar is most known for his singing and the amazing, truly evergreen songs that he sung and composed with R. D. Burman. But he was an equally talented actor and gave many funny movies such as Half-Ticket. Padosan along with Sunil Dutt was one of his funniest movies. Add Mehmood and a few other comedian like Mukhri and Keshto and you have a full team of comedians in one place.

You can again classify this as an Indian Rom-Com. Bhola falls in love with his neighbor who loves music and dance. To impress her, Bhola ropes in a playback singer, which nearly works, until the lie is out. Imagine all of this happening in complete chaos. You have 2 hours of pure fun.

4. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron

A satirical take on corruption in real-estate in Bombay of the 80s. With stars like Naseeruddin Shah, Pakaj Kapur, and Om Puri, this movie is a laugh riot.

Vinod Mishra and Sudhir Chopra are struggling photographers who are trying to keep their business afloat. They enter a photography contest and go around Bombay taking snaps in hopes of winning the prize money, only to stumble upon a murder evidence. What follows is a hilarious chase for the evidence that involves prominent and rich members of Bombay.

5. Angoor

Senjeev Kumar was one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood.  He gave some thrilling movies, some action-packed movies, and this one with Deven Verma is a must-watch, if you haven’t already.

Based on Shakespeare’s play, The Comedy of Errors,  Angoor has double double-roles. With these identical pairs along with supporting characters all placed in one city, the movie is full of confusion and funny situations as everyone tries to hide something from others.

6. Andaz Apna Apna

The 90s were full of weird movies that I bet most of you won’t watch anymore. But among the ‘No.1’ series, there were some amazing movies too. Andaz Apna Apna is perhaps the one movie from the 90s that you won’t get bored of. Almost every character of this movie is unforgettable.

Amar and Prem set out to make a fortune of their own stumble upon a rich girl who must marry. Whoever, marries stands to gain millions in inheritance. But Amar and Prem are not the only ones in the line, though most resourceful, must fight it out with the competitors. And then there is crime master Gogo – Aaya hoon toh kuch na kuch leke jaoonga!

7. Hera Pheri

Paresh Rawal needs no introduction. The versatile actor immortalized the character Babu Rao or Babu Bhaiyaa and gave one of the decades most admired comedies.

Broke tenants, broke owner, and a bunch of other characters all fighting for survival. Something’s got to give in these situations. The desperate group, to raise money, tries to take advantage from a misdirected phone call from a kidnapper and earn money by carrying out the exchange of ransom.

8. Bheja Fry

LOLZ. This one was a big surprise. Based on Le Dîner de Cons, the movie starts slow, but the characters and their peculiarities soon engage you.

A rich businessman has a special party each weekend where like to invite an ‘idiot’ who is the entertainer for the evening. Only this time, this person turns out to be an Income Tax inspector. A last minute injury forces Ranjit, the businessman, to cancel the party, but he is now stuck with the idiot of the week – Bharat Bhushan. What follows is one hilarious situation after another created by bumbling Bharat Bhushan.

9. Hungama

Another amazing movie from Priyadarshan. Starring Paresh Rawal, Akshay Khanna and Shakti Kapoor, the movie is based on Charles Dickens’ play, The Strange Gentlemen.

10. Khichadi: The Movie

The TV series fans will swear by it. It is quite difficult to live up to the expectations when you have scores of fans watching the TV program. But the move doesn’t disappoint you.
