Deepwater Horizon Movie Story

Deepwater Horizon  movie is another account of corporate greed vs. the right thing. At the center of this is our technician hero Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg). The movie begins with Mike Williams being shipped to the oil rig for maintenance work, along with the safety manager (Kurt Russell) and some suits. The suits don’t care about the safety and are ready to take risks and even put life of the crew members in danger to make their reports and bottom-line look good.

After this difference of approach and opinion is made clear, the movie moves on to the disastrous explosion where Mike does everything he can to get as many out to safety as he can in the middle of spraying mud and raging fire.

Deepwater Horizon Movie Review

It has been some time that we have seen a good disaster movie. The outcome of this story is not in question. There is no suspense here. But the director creates a pacey account of the hours leading to the disaster that builds all the anxiety and anticipation for the viewers. The non-stop action starts early, and doesn’t let up as you are sucked into the disaster scene, says Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter.

What was one of the biggest environmental disaster in the US, it was equally difficult to find and assign blame. The movie keeps it that way by using technical jargon and a fast conversation. So unless you are a drilling or piping engineer (real engineer) trying to understand everything that the characters discuss should not be your aim, according to Jake Cole from Slant.

But for a story that you already know, and technical part that you may perhaps never understand, the movie surely makes up with some awesome graphics and real-life sets. With all the minute to minute action, you won’t have the time to dwell on something that happened a few minutes before.
