When the Bough Breaks Story

John Taylor is a successful lawyer and Laura Taylor is a busy chef in New Orleans. All their efforts to conceive a baby have fallen flat and they have now decided to hire a young woman, Anna, to be their surrogate. There are enough warning signs to put this off, but desperation makes the couple stick to the girl. Her easy-going, sweet demeanor changes to manipulative obsession with John when she moves in to live with them. Is this part of the plan or is Anna really falling for the father of the baby. Are her emotions strong enough to make her do the unthinkable?

Governments have often discussed exploitation of the surrogate mother and the ills of commercial surrogacy. When the Bough Breaks shows us the dangers of inviting a person you do not know about into your lives.

When the Bough Breaks Critics Reviews

The movie has all the elements of a psychological thriller with enough twists and turns. However, Gary Goldstein at Los Angeles Times thinks the movie has very little new to offer. Thriller junkies will find enough shocks and surprises through the movie as Johan Cassar uses his workmanship, but ultimately create a movie that at beast qualifies as a TV movie according to Joe Leydon at Variety.

The consensus of the critics appears to be that the movie is run-of-the-mill thriller with a slightly different backdrop. The audience at Rotten Tomatoes rate the movie as 3.4/5 and IMDB viewers give it a below average 4.9/10.
