These are some of the movies that I remember as good and that also did well at the box office. These may not be necessarily the top grosser. You will see that Happy New Year and PK both are not on the list and did well at the box office. But I don’t think the two movies were good enough to capture and hold viewers’ attention. Bollywood and its audiences love comedy movies, and you will find many of these making to this list.
On the contrary, movies like Daawat-E-Ishq didn’t have the headline actors in the lead role, but was a movie that you should definitely watch. It was an overall entertaining movie with various twists and turns and a good soundtrack. A movie that you will not get bored of. So checkout these Bollywood hits from 2014

Jai Ho
Released a couple of days before India’s Republic Day, the movie had a patriotic angle with Salman Khan enacting Major Jai Agnihotri. The movie is based on the Hollywood movie Pay it Forward and shows how if we all decide to do a good deed everyday can make the world a better place.

Hasee Toh Phasee
A romantic-comedy drama, the movie explores the lives of two sisters and the boy Nikhil Bharadwaj, who is about to marry one of the sisters. But when Meeta crashes her sister’s wedding after being absent for years, Nikhil has a change of heart. He likes Meeta, but firmly believes that promises are not meant to be broken. An engaging drama with good performance by Siddhart Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra.
Gunday
Set in the 70s and 80s, the movie is an Action-Drama based on the coal mines in the Eastern parts of India. Ranveer Singh and Arjun kapoor play coal bandits and gun runners in this fast-paced Action-Drama with a strong supporting cast of Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan. The movie chronicles the life of Bikram and Bala – the two bandits – and the government’s attempts to catch and imprison them.
Queen
Getting stood up at the altar is not a great feeling. All that planning, guests, and expenses put a strain on anyone. But Raani (Kangana Ranaut) decides she wouldn’t let her fiance’s idiocy ruin her life, or let go all that planning to waste. So to feel empowered, the rural kudi embarks on her honeymoon trip to Paris, alone. A romantic-comedy with a twist, Queen was a instant hit and also won critical acclaim.
Heropanti
Tiger Shroff is emerging to be Bollywood’s latest action hero. He made his debut along with Kriti Sanon in Heropanti. The movie is based on Telugu film Parugu and is Action-Romance film. The movie follows a simple, and common story of a boy falling in love with a girl, whose family is against their union.
Holiday
Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty is a remake of Tamil film, also made by A. R. Murugadoss. The movie was a superhit and the highest grosser in the first half of 2014. Akshay Kumar plays the role of an army officer who is on leave visiting his parents. But then he accidentally stumbles into a terrorist plot to carry out blasts across Mumbai. He ropes in his team and they decide to foil the plot. The movie unfolds this cat and mouse game as the sleeper cell leader tries to eliminate the team members and make sure his mission goes through.

Bobby Jasoos
A romantic-comedy with a refreshing plot, Bobby Jasoos a.k.a Bilkis Ahmed is a wannabe private detective. She is passionate about the art of spying and helps anyone who will take her help. Her big break comes when a mysterious NRI asks her to help him find three people.

The movie is engaging with enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the screen. This is another movie that you must watch, if you haven’t already.
Daawat-E-Ishq
Gullu dreams of going to America, but her father – a middle class government clerk – wants to marry her off and be free of his responsibilities. Gullu agrees to this, but finds that a good match is not possible without a hefty dowry that her father cannot afford. Angered by this condition, Gullu decides to use the Anti-Dowry law to extort money from a demanding groom and run to America.
You must join Gullu as she travels across India to put her plans into action and falls in love with Tariq from Lucknow.
Highway
A Romantic-Drama, Highway is not your usual run-of-the-mill story. Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda give outstanding performances in this slow-paced drama that peels different layers as it unfolds. What begins as a kidnapping, ends in a emotional meeting of two souls in love, in a different dimension. The movie explores how we can feel trapped all our lives and yet experience freedom under threat.
