Running away from the wedding mandap, on the day when there a hundreds of guests and lakhs of rupees invested in the event. What a rush! There has to be something special about you to do something like this. But I guess the feeling of impending doom is much greater than all the other considerations that cross a bride’s or groom’s mind when they decide to ditch the wedding and make a run for it. However bad it may be for the families involved in the event, it is always somewhat funny for people who are not invested in the wedding in any way. And it is this humor and the free spirit that these Bollywood movies capture.

1. Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi
The movie casts Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan in this Romantic Comedy that is loosely based on It Happened One Night. Pooja is running from her father to get married to the love of her life – actor Deepak Kumar. On the way to meet her husband to be, Pooja bumps into a press reporter Raghu, who helps her run in exchange for an exclusive story. As they grow fond of each other, it is time for Pooja to run again – this time from her wedding!
2. Jab We Met
Love is a funny thing and dynamic too. Geet is in love with Anshuman, but knows that her family would never accept their union. So after she meets Aditya on a train, she ropes him in to help her elope with Anshuman. And he does. But Anshuman doesn’t agree that running away is the solution to their problem and sends her back. As romance between Aditya and Geet blossoms, you are all set for a new twist in the movie.
3. Shudh Desi Romance
Life and Love is all fun when you have no responsibilities. But as the time to the final commitment nears, many among us chicken out at the last moment. Raghu meets Gayatri on his way to his wedding arranged by his family and is infatuated with her. With a nudge from her, he runs just before the wedding day and starts courting Gayatri.
After a month or two they decide to get married, but Gayatri runs away before the wedding and leaves him alone at the mandap. They agree to marry again, but fail to curb their urge to run and their fear of commitment. Will they ever stop running?
4. Hasee Toh Phasee
Another tale of misjudged love. Well, perhaps you will never realize what love is untill you truly fall in love. Nikhil is getting ready to marry Karishma with whom he has had a seven year long relationship. But a week before the wedding, Meeta, Karishma’s sister returns and it is Nikhil’s job to keep her away from her father.
As their affection for each other grows in these few days, they decide to elope. Will that be the right choice? The movie explores the dynamics between different relationships when multiple people from the same family are connected.
5. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya
Green Card marriages are not new. Mini a Haraynvi kudi hates the idea of getting married. But she is being forced to marry Sunny whose only interest is getting a green card. Her luck changes when Viren (Riteish Deshmukh) crashes her wedding to get his money. Mini manages to convince Viren to kidnap her and flees with him from the shaadi mandap.
Hilarious events unfold as her family begins a search for her. This one is a must watch.
6. Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani
Love can make you do weird stuff. Even marry off the one you love to someone else! That’s right. Prem and Jenny bump into each other and become friends. Prem slowly falls in love with Jenny, who loves Rahul and intends to marry him. But her family doesn’t approve of this relationship and wants her to marry Tony.
Prem decides to help Jenny marry Rahul and assists Jenny to run on her wedding day. There’s too much love here, and a lot of confusion too. Watch this fast paced entertainer and find out who Jenny marries finally.
7. Dolly Ki Doli
The movie is more of a con than about a runaway bride. This here is a different kind of runaway bride. Dolly and her fake family go on a hunt for a gullible groom and trap the entire family into marrying the groom to her. Their final act begins after the wedding. Dolly drugs the groom on the wedding night and runs away with all the jewelry, gifts and cash. – never to be seen again.
With the police on the hunt for this team of con artists they are trapped by Robin Singh, only to be escape again. The movie will keep you engaged all through the two hours and you will enjoy Dolly’s bubbly, mischievous character.
8. Namaste London
People relocate to foreign countries to earn a quick buck, but are up in arms when their children identify more with the country they are born in than their ancestral lineage. That is the story of Jazz or Jasmeet and Namaste London. Forced into marriage with Arjun (Akshay Kumar) Jazz returns to London maintains that she is not married whatever happened in India is illegal.
But as time passes her relationship with Charlie comes under stress and she finds love with Arjun. This sets the stage for the final act as Jazz runs away on the wedding day with Arjun.
9. Pyar Ke Side Effects
This one again boils down to fear of commitment. Sid is a struggling DJ playing at Trisha’s wedding. But there is trouble in paradise and he witnsses Trisha run away from the wedding. Their relationship begins when he meets her again in Mumbai after a couple of years. They fall in love and decide to get married, but this is not acceptable to Trisha’s father.
They break up and Trisha agrees to marry Vivek. Will Sid come back? More importantly, will Trisha accept him when she’s already committed to marry Vivek.
10. Ready
This was one of the best Romantic comedies of the year. A remake of Telgu film by same name, the hindi version casts Salman Khan and Asin. With an ensemble cast and non-stop action, the movie is a situational comedy that you should not miss.
Snajana, who has run away from her wedding, decides to impersonate as Pooja and crashes at Prem’s home as his intended fiance. Trouble begins when Sanjana’s uncles find out her location and try to get her to marry their sons to get access to her wealth.
