Budhia Singh: Born to Run Story
The story of the movie is adapted from real-life incidents and as such do not leave a lot to speculate. Budhia singh was sold to a salasman at the age of two. But after his ill-treatment, Biranchi Das and local Judo coach and orphanage owner took him in. The legend goes that when Biranchi Das ordered Budhia to run as a form of punishment. But he later forgot, until he returned a few hours later and found him still running. What confounded him was the the kids vitals were normal even after running for hours. This propted Biranchi Das to train and push Budhia to run long distances.
Biranchi Das was later accused of exploitation by Child Welfare and other organizations, which he denied. The accusation was also taken back by Budhia, in a Documentry, later.
Budhia Singh Movie Review
A passionate coach, a needy kid, and fame and money. Isn’t that a mess. It is difficult to find the truth in all this. To judge if it was passion or something else. The movie gives a glimpse of the complicated and troubled relationship between the coach and Budhia Singh.
Another sports Drama – this one for real – that explores the efforts that go into making of an athlete. The movie also looks into our sports organizations, the politics within, and the different stakeholders when it comes to doing something for the orphans. The same people who will lament at not doing enough for homeless kids, will accuse people who do something of exploitation.
Critics Reviews
But the movie is not about people with vested interests. The on-screen presence of Bajpayee and the dynamics between the two actors make the movie a motivational episode. Real-life videos of other sportsperson talking about Budhia make the movie feel more real, says Rohit Vats of Hindustan Times. He says the drama plays out like a thriller and does not give a dull moment.
Kriti Tulsani of News18 echoes Rohit’s thoughts when she says that the quick build up and timing of the movie makes it worth watching this weekend and celebrate the launch of Rio Olympics 2016.
Shubhra Guta applauds performances by Mayur Patole and Bajpayee and stresses that the sport makes up the core of the movie and that is what makes it good.
The movie seems to have garnered good reviews all round. If you are not in the mood for a movie like Fever, this should be your choice for the weekend.
