Ghostbusters 2016 is a remake of the original Ghostbusters movie of the 80s. The Supernatural comedy is directed by Paul Feig and casts comedians like Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones as part of the ghost fighting quartet.
The movie was released in the US on July 15, 2016 and has grossed $125 million worldwide. It is scheduled to release in India on 28th July where it is one of the favorite Hollywood releases to watch in the week. With release of Bollywood Action Adventure Dishoom, Ghostbusters has a tough competition in the local market, but I am sure Hollywood fans won’t miss the opportunity to watch the remake of this 80s favorite.

Ghostbusters Synopsis
Manhattan is under an invasion. An invasion by paranormal forces, only the public doesn’t know about it yet. The Department of Homeland Security and the city officials know and support the Ghostbusters team, but denounce them publicly. They soon find out that Rowan, an occultist, is using a device to summon ghosts near Times Square and building a portal to the ghost dimension.
When caught in the act Rowan electrocutes himself and becomes a ghost himself – something he had planned all along. He now commands a powerful army of ghosts and attacks the city and its inhabitants. It is now up to the Ghostbusters to rescue the city from this menace.
Ghostbusters Movie Review
The movie has garnered mixed reviews. One of the major flaws that most critics have pointed out is that the movie doesn’t change a bit from the original movie, other than the all-female crew. James Berardinelli finds the movie relying too much of action sequences between the ghosts and the crew. He points out that the movie has very little humor and the chemistry between the lead characters is lacking.
Richard Roeper doesn’t mince any words when he calls the movie a horrifying mess. For a movie whose USP with a remake would be better visuals, the critic believes that the special effects are cheesy and unimpressive. The movie lacks humor in any form and references to the 80s classic are a bit too much.
Jon Niccum at Kansas City Star gives a slightly positive review when he says it is not as bad as it is made out to be, but also not as good as the original. He think that performances by the four comedians are quite good, but the movie drags toward the end and fails to keep the momentum going.
The consensus seems to be that if you are the original movie fan, don’t bother to watch this one because you will end up comparing and this one will not score higher. But for someone who have never seen the 80s Ghostbusters, it just might be the all-fun Summer movie that you wanted.
