Survival in the film industry is much difficult that most other professions and industries. You are not only evaluated by those around you, but by millions all the time, each time. One wrong act or one wrong public move can erase you from the memory of your fans. Filmfare debut award winners perhaps have the best possible launchpad to make it to the top. But maybe it is not just about how good an actor you are, luck and mass appeal is equally important.
Filmfare Debut Award Winners
I loved the performances of these actors as much as any other Bollywood stars who made it to the top of the charts. And these are also on the top of my list – actors I would love to see more of. But for some reason, they didn’t make it to the top of the charts.
Chandrachur Singh

Chandrachur Singh won the Best Debut Male in in 1996 for his role of Pali in Machis. The movie highlights the political and social environment around the rise of Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 80s. He also won the Best Supporting Actor award for Kya Kehna. No doubt an accopalished actor, we haven’t seen him in a mainstream film for nearly a decade now.
Rahul Khanna

Rahul Khanna, son of Vinod Khanna, won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for Deepa Mehta’s Earth. Rahul Khanna played the role of Hassan a masseur in the film. Another memorable role that Rahul Khanna played too came in Deepa Mehta’s Bollywood-Hollywood movie in the early 2000s.
Shiney Ahuja

Shiney Ahuja made his wnning debut in Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi as Vikram Malhotra. He has given us some other good films like Life in a . . . Metro, but is missing in action for some time now, mainly becuase of the controversies he has been enbroiled in.
Vidyut Jamwal

Vidyut Jamwal won the Filmfare Best male Debut award for Force in 2011. Vidyut Jamwal played the role of Vishnu along with Hohn Abraham and Genelia D’Souza. Since then he has performed in various movies and won awards as a promising actor. His last movie, Bullet Raja, wasn’t much of a hit. But I guess with Commando 2, we might see his fortunes turning in 2017.
Bhagyashree Patwardhan

She won the Best Female Debut award in 1990, but has been mostly out of mainstream movies since then. You can spot her every now and then in some regional films, but this is another actor who could have made it to the top.
Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna won the Filmfare Debut Award in 1996 for her role as Tina Oberoi in Barsaat. Her last successful stint as an actor was with her hubby Akshay Kumar in Holidy. She gave many other hits like Jab Pyar Kisise Hota hai with Salman Khan and Jodi No.1 with Govinda and Sanjay Dutt.
Vaani Kapoor

A Tourism Studies graduate, Vani Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Female Debut award in 2013 as Tara in Shugh Desi Romance. However, she is missing in action since then. Her next major project is set to release in December 2016. She is working with Ranveer Shingh and Emran Hashmi and we hope to see another hit from her this year.
Esha Deol

A student of Mithibai College in Mumbaim Esha Deol planned to become a Fashion Designer. But she shot to fame in the tinsel town with her performance as Esha Singh in Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche in 2002 when she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She has since then worked in various movies but has failed to impress the juries or audiences.
Ayesha Takia

Although Taarzan: The Wonder Car was technically her second, the movie came out before Socha Na Tha, another hit. She won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Taarzan in 2005 for her role of Priya Rakesh Kapoor. She has since then worked in various movies with award winning performances in Dor and unforgettable role in Sunday with Ajay Devgan. This is another actor who deserves to be in the top performers list.
