It was not like it is today. Watching cartoons in the last century. We didn’t have the 24 hour Cartoon Network to get this precious experience at our whim and fancy. Until the Cable TV hit India’s mainstream sometime in the 90s, Cartoon hour came on DoorDarshan only for a couple of hours on Sunday. And this was easily the most entertaining hour on the TV in the entire week, for cartoon lovers.

While Dorimon, Pokemon, Cockroach must be entertaining, I am sure these classic cartoon characters can still make you laugh and you can learn a few life lessons with Uncle Scrooge.
Tom & Jerry
William Hanna & Joseph Barbera created the characters in 1940s and it has ruled the TV screens since then. The cartoon centers around the animosity between a cat and a mouse. The cartoon has won multiple Academy Awards and has been made into movies and spin-offs including the Tom & Jerry Kids in the 90s. A lot of these episodes and movies are available free online. Check out this hour long classic Tom & Jerry marathon.

Bugs Bunny
Who can resist the charm of Bugs Bunny? He is nonchalant, flippant, a trickster, and well, a New Yorker, if you go by the voice of Mel Blanc. Bugs Bunny was Warner Bros. mascot for a long time and only the second cartoon character to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The adventures of Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny along with the Looney Tunes series is a must-watch for kids of all ages. These are also prescribed for kids 70 and above! This four hour long compilation will be more than enough to get a laugh out of a rock.
The Road Runner
The Road Runner and the Wile E. Coyote are easily one of the most entertaining and attention grabbing cartoons. The main theme here is similar to Tom & Jerry or the Porky Pig. Wile E. Coyote is desperate to catch The Road Runner and always scheming new ways to trap the fast and furious road runner. Join the Coyote and checkout his latest contraptions to catch the road runner, see if you can. Beep Beep.

Donald Duck
Temperamental and mischievous, Donald is one of the greatest cartoon characters of the last century. You will more often than not, find him in the company of Mickey and Goofy. And when they are not around, you will have Donald’s nephews – Huey, Dewey, and Louie creating rucks at the Duck dynasty. Check out one my favorites – Donald Duck with Chip and Dale the chipmunks.

Uncle Scrooge
Want some lessons on how Economy and Money works at an early age? Uncle Scrooge will show you how to be frugal. YouTube has many uncle scrooge videos. And I have heard that there is a new version of Duck Tales on the cards, can’t wait for that.
Sylvester
Sylvester the Puddy cat comes from the Looney Tunes series. The Academy Award winning cat along with Tweety, Speedy Gonzales and Porky Pig will entertain you better than most of the current cartoons.

Daffy Duck
A friend of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck features in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. Animated by Bob Clampett Daffy Duck first appeared on the scene in late 1930s. Wild and perpetually jumping around the screen, Daffy is the original screwball. Checkout this hour long, hilarious antics of Daffy.
