There is a rift in Avengers. Captain America doesn’t see ye-to-eye with the rest of Avengers team, when another incident sparks off the debate on government oversight on Avengers. This disagreement leads to factions: Captain America leading one and the other lead by Tony Stark, which is pro-government – no surprise here.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Stars: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson
We have until now seen Avengers fighting, terrorists, dictators, and some aliens to protect Earth and humanity. In Captain America, Civil War, the Avengers find themselves in a more real and political mess. The main question the movie puts to its viewers is should superheroes operate in a vacuum without any oversight and restriction? The question of morality and collateral damage takes a center seat here too, after movies like Eye in the Sky released earlier this year.
The civil war here is the war between Captain America’s team and those who support Tony Stark and the government. A war between superheroes in the Marvel universe. Anti-administration and anti-government movies make the most splash in an election year, so this story line after Batman Vs. Superman seems about piggy backing on the topmost issue on people’s minds, right now.
Critics’ Views
Jamelle Bouie of Slate compares Captain Amercia, Civil War to Batmav Vs. Superman, but in his opinion Captain America, Civil War is a much better movie than the other. He says that Civil War is much more emotionally charged and has a strong story to involve the viewers than Batman Vs. Superman.
Andrea Grnnwell from Chicago Reader finds the action sequences exhilarating but monotonous by the end of th two hour movie.
A.O. Scott or New York Times thinks Captain America, Civil War does not bring anything new to the screen. But at the same time succeeds in keeping things simple, relatable and comic lovers and superhero movie buffs can sit back and enjoy an entertaining couple of hours.
That is what movie are for, aren’t they? Getting lost in a fictional world and forget everything about the real.
