The Suspect Plot

‘The Suspect’ follows Dennis Oland as he is convicted for his father’s murder but insists his innocence leading to a retrial.

It was a blood bath. On July 6, 2011, Richard Oland suffered a gruesome 45 blows to his head neck, and hands. A crime like this would have been big news almost anywhere, but in New Brunswick, it was huge.

The victim was one of the elites. His son, Dennis, quickly became the prime suspect. Dennis was the last known person to see his father alive, he was deeply in debt, and blood and his father’s DNA were found on his clothing.

After years of widespread schadenfreude, alleged police misconduct, trial by media, and a jury pool contaminated by a constant barrage of pre-trial publicity, Dennis was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

But he has always insisted he is innocent, and in October of 2016, a retrial was ordered. The series follows the defense team as they look into unexplored leads and dig into new evidence in a search for the truth.
