Anne Barton is not new to readers here. I loved reading Once She Was Tempted. Generally, I try not to read too many books from the same series or author because I want to feature more new authors here. But the cover page of this book was enticing. A snowy landscape and an ice blue gown wearing maiden just called to me. And so I picked up One Wild Winter’s Eve.
Lady Rose Sherbourne is a Duke’s daughter. She had a very tumultuous adolescence. But one thing stands out. The sexy, handsome stable master who was her special friend. Only he understood her well, even when she could not express herself. She is so shocked when he leaves that she starts talking again. Now she is older and more stubborn. And determined to find out where her absconding mother is.
The old Duchess ran away and brought disgrace to her family. She abandoned her children. But Rose does not care about that. She just wants to know where her mother is, whether she is alive and flourishing and whether she misses her children at all. Rose takes up a job as companion to a grouchy lady and goes away to Bath, to live with her mother’s friend.
She realizes that her hostess is in touch with her mother but reluctant to admit it. She runs into her old nemesis, the same stable guy who rocked her world a few years ago. Except he is now managing the estate and is more handsome than ever before. Rose tries to convince him to help her.
As expected in any Regency romance, the sparks fly. Rose flaunts convention and gets hot with her old hero. It turns out that her hostess is also pining away for the same man. Then follows some drama and deception, and Rose is on the run.
Does she find her mother? And does all end well? You will have to read One Wild Winter’s Eve to find out. The story is interesting and the narrative will keep you engrossed. There is an element of thrill too as Rose tries to spy around to get more information about her mother.
An interesting read, overall.
