Sweet Magnolias Plot
‘Sweet Magnolias’ series follows three friends: Maddie, Helen and Dana as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the charming small town of Serenity, SC.
We begin the series with Maddie who is living a happy life in Serenity, South Carolina. With her lifelong friends by her side, there is nothing she could ask for more.
But her life is suddenly take a disastrous turn when her husband leaves her and the two kids to fend for themselves. With both emotional and financial responsibility of the family on her shoulders, life seems like an endless chore. But with her son’s coach coming across as a fresh breath of air, romance might still have a chance.
Dana Sue, a successful restaurateur too has problems of her own. With a teenager bent on starving herself, and having to come to terms with a broken marriage, Dana has her hands full. With the spark with the husband she threw out still alive, can the two mend fences and return to that slice of heaven they always imagined.
We find the third of the lot, Helen, suddenly awake and eager for familu life that she never considered. Driven, career-oriented, Helen spent most of her youth getting through the law school and building a thriving practice as a divorce lawyer. Now, 42, Helen wants to start a family. But her work has made her more cynical than ever and puts her at odds with the two best friends.
As these three lives intersect and brings personal ups and downs, can their friendship survive the storms that life has in store from them and keep their bonds stronger than ever? Or will their relationship succumb to the demands of personal goals and desires.

Sweet Magnolias Review
The series spends most of the early episodes in setting up the stage as we get introduced to the main characters and where they are in their lives. Although the book series had a dedicated book for each of the friends, here we get parallel storylines as expected. However, a lot seems to happen in the first couple of episodes and at the same time the pace seems a bit slow.
The performances do not bore you, but you will have to invest some time to get engrossed in their stories as early episodes lack the hook to pull you in. Overall, if you like slow-paced dramas that amble through life in a small town with friendly neighbors, the series will not disappoint you.
