Academy Awards 2016: A Quick Summary

And with that the Academy Awards 2016 are over. As the celebrities get ready to move to the After party and the winners soak in the rewards of their labor, I have decided to list this amazing experience.

It must have been decades since I sat through the whole thing  – a six hour long spectacle. From the celebrities arriving and walking on to the Red Carpet and up the grand stairs of the Dolby Theater in LA to the final moments that culminated in the best picture of 2015, it was all  a fascinating few hours.

Among the glitterati, there were some old faces like Whoopi and Sylvester Stallone and new ones like our very own Priyanka Chopra and Eddie Redmayne.

Most of the theme throughout the awards was, of course, exclusion, or shall we say the question of inclusion. Robin Roberts was on her toes discussing the missing Black nominations with Academy office holders and the need for inclusion was echoed by all.

Well, deliberate or not, the missing black actor nominations did create a lot of uncomfortable moments. Chris Rock, however, made the most of the current situation without being subtle yet in a very humorous way. The videos and clippings were priceless. So were the performances by Lady Gaga and others.

It was all happening at the Academy Awards this year and Global Warming, Sexual Abuse, and Diversity were the themes that dominated the annual gala.

Instead of keeping you scrolling all the way to the end, I will start with the Popular awards.

Best Supporting Actress

Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl. The story is about an actor and his wife as the actor (Ediie Redmayne) decides to go through sex change operations.
Most  of the technical awards were dominated by Mad Max Fury with exception of Cinematography that went to The Revnant and Best Visual Effects to Ex Machina.
So that is it, the Academy Awards 2016 Summary. Did any of your favorites win? I would have loved to see The Big Short win a couple more, but hey, what do I know.
