Scandalous Summer Nights by Anne Barton: In Hot Pursuit

Scandalous Summer Nights is the latest book from Anne Barton’s Honeycote series. I reviewed Once She was Tempted earlier, and being familiar with the characters, was looking forward to reading Olivia’s story.

Scandalous Summer Nights

Lady Olivia Sherbourne is unconventional. She takes on dares and will risk anything for one. She has been in love with James Averill, her brother’s friend, for the longest time. Tired of waiting for him to notice her, she finally makes a move. James is a solicitor who is not highborn enough for Lady Olivia. Or so he thinks. And he is all set to go to Egypt on an expedition. The last thing he needs is shackles in the form of love, or a loving maiden.

In a reckless move, Olivia takes off after James to the Lakes, and manages to compromise both of them. Then she feels guilty that she may have caused James to give up his long cherished dream. James may not love her, but he is certainly lusting for her. Almost half the book is given to amorous love scenes between the couple, which is good news for fans who are looking for something to warm them up in the Fall weather.

James is hiding a secret from Olivia, and it will turn the Sherbourne family’s life upside down. But what is worse is, Olivia might lose her trust in James. Most of the story is set far away from London, in a small village. There are no balls and fancy dresses, or teas or at homes. The characters are the main focus, and so is family. Everyone thinks they are doing their duty, but none realize that it is a deep love that drives them.

Scandalous Summer Nights fulfills the promise shown in its title and on the cover. Salacious encounters combine with a love story to delight romance readers. Go for it!
