The Les Miserables musical that came out a few years ago took the box office by storm and earned many awards across the pond. Now, Andrew Davies delves a bit deeper into the story with BBC’s six part drama that debuts in the US on PBS. Les Miserables Series Plot
Set in the backdrop of French Revolution, Les Miserables follows Jean Valijean. The series brings to life a vast and unforgettable cast of characters and tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict unable to escape the shadow of his past life, and his relentless pursuit by the chilling police officer Javert.
With a more keen look compared to the musical, the new series explores the struggles and triumphs of the underclass and the quest for a better life.

Episode 1
1815 War-torn France has been defeated at the battle of Waterloo. Convict Jean Valjean is nearing the end of his sentence in Toulon after serving 19 years for a petty crime and is released by the ambitious prison guard Javert. Convinced he will reoffend, Javert forms a deep personal hatred of Valjean.
Episode 2
A desperately poor Fantine is forced to leave Paris to find work and makes a difficult decision to give her young daughter Cosette a better way of life. Making her way to Montreuil she finds work in a factory, presided over by the generous Monsieur Madeleine.
Episode 3
A tormented Jean Valjean is forced by Javert and his own conscience to reveal his true identity, but a promise to Fantine changes everything.
Episode 4
Marius Pontmercy, now a young law student, confronts his grandfather Gillenormand after learning the truth about his heroic late father and the ideals Pontmercy fought for under Napoleon. Cosette catches Marius’ eye and feels a new life for her may be just beginning.
Meanwhile, Javert has climbed the ranks of the Paris police, and, after receiving some important information, realizes he is close to his goal of recapturing an escaped prisoner.
Episode 5
As Paris is on the brink of revolt and unrest spreads through the streets, an increasingly paranoid Valjean takes Cosette to a safer location as Javert redoubles his efforts to find him.
Episode 6
Valjean makes the ultimate heartbreaking decision thinking he is doing the best for his daughter Cosette, but underestimates the depth of her love for him.
