Hurricane Hole Book Plot
Talk about seas and yachts and sailing, and you should know a shipwreck isn’t far behind. Leila Hunter is a well known soap actress who is between contracts. She is spending some quality time on her sailboat and is accompanied by an unwanted guy, a talking parrot and a cat. Gabe has a past with her sister and is on the run from the law. He has been roaming the islands for several years, but wants to go back to the States. Leila wants to avoid that at all costs because Gabe’s arrest might besmirch her sister’s career.
There is a cluster of boats anchored around the island of Peurto Felice, many of them belonging to Americans. There is the family with three kids and there is an enthusiastic drag queen who does odd jobs for people. Ari sails into this flotilla without a crew and makes Leila’s acquaintance. Leila has thrown Gabe out and asked him to find lodgings on the mainland. Harms’ Way is a seedy bar where everyone ends up, whether to drink, eat or gossip. The Contessa is an ugly woman with a sidekick called Werner. She has been shipwrecked and injured in the last hurricane that hit the islands. It turns out that Ari is a diver and the Contessa wants him to dive on her wreck. He refuses, much to her chagrin!
Ari’s boat is burned in what looks like an accident, and this sets off an investigation. Leila has discovered Ari’s true identity and her agent has plans for them. Gabe is very desperate but doesn’t want to show it. A kidnapping turns the water murky as the hurricane hurtles toward the island. More colorful characters are introduced, and events escalate to a magnificent action packed finale.
Hurricane Hole Book Review
Hurricane Hole book started out slow. I actually almost gave up on it. But the story picked up pace and then it became a page turner. This is a timeless story. It is not very evident what decade this takes place in, but it could be the 90s or the last one. There is not a big stress on technology and that doesn’t make it any worse for wear. The focus is on the plot and it has almost a retro feel to it. This book is a mystery, action, adventure, thriller rolled into one.
I vote Hurricane Hole to be very enjoyable and recommend it, whether you want to read it in your La-Z-boy or from the deck of a cruise ship or yacht.
