Bella Andre’s The Way You Look Tonight introduces us to the Sullivans, a lively Seattle family with prodigal children. Debbie Macomber has made the Pacific Northwest famous with her Cedar Cove series, and after feasting on Hallmark channel’s Cedar Cove last Fall, it is easier to imagine the exotic locale that is the setting of Bella Andre’s book.
Rafe Sullivan is a cop turned private investigator. He runs a successful agency in Seattle. His clients are many, unfortunately they are the kind that get cheated upon. Rafe has completely jaded outlook on love and relationships and is still nursing a knife wound from a client gone wild. Rafe’s sister Mia is a successful realtor who comes across a gem of a deal – the lake house where they spent their summers as children. The Sullivans have still not forgotten those troubled times when they had to sell off their vacation home. Mia convinces Rafe to buy the lake house and take a much needed time out.
Brooke Jansen makes chocolates for a living. She lives in a small town in the lake house she inherited from her grandparents. The house next door is empty now, but she has fond memories of the boisterous Sullivan clan from her childhood.
When Rafe turns up at the lake, he is in for more than one shock. The house is a bust and needs lots of work before it is worth living in. Little Brooke from next door has grown up into a ravishing, sexy beauty he can’t take eyes off. He takes up Brooke’s offer to bunk with her until his house is fixed.
Sparks fly as expected. Brooke discovers that her childhood crush has taken on new proportions. The passion between the two sizzles and burns. But both Rafe and Brooke have their own demons. Will they be able to overcome their past to build a future together?
Bella Andre tells an absorbing tale rich with anecdotes and old memories. Don’t be surprised if reading this book takes you down memory lane. The Sullivans, or the Seattle Sullivans are smart and successful, and it is uplifting to read about people who can buy vacation homes on a whim. Hey, there is nothing wrong with reading sweet stuff once in a while. There is lots of action between Brooke and Rafe and no scarcity of love scenes.
The Way You Look Tonight is an all round winner for romance lovers. Grab it while it is still free and get the rest of the series too. This is a book you can take to bed, and read as you alternate between smiles and dreams.
