Amanda (Cameron Diaz) lives in sunny L.A and Iris (Kate Winslet) in a small village in Surrey. They swap houses. Iris meets the dishy composer Miles (Jack Black) who is being fooled by his girl friend. Iris meets the dishier author Graham (Jude Law) who is a writer and also Iris’s brother. Eli Wallach plays a has been Hollywood writer who can barely walk. He strikes up an unlikely friendship with Iris and Miles, and gives us some wise life lessons and poignant moments.
In the week before Christmas, these two couples fall in love. The Holiday is my all time favorite Christmas movie romance, and I watch it year after year, even when its not Christmas. The powerful star cast speaks for itself. Nancy Meyers has given us other gems like Something’s Gotta Give and What Women Want, and she does not disappoint here either.
