Same Kind of Different As Me Movie Plot
A successful businessman with a crumbling home life and an emotionally scarred homeless man, with sensitivity beyond his circumstances, must cross more than the racial and socioeconomic divides that separate them in Same Kind of Different As Me movie, based on the true story first told in the best-selling book of the same name.
Ron Hall (Greg Kinnear) is an international art dealer living in Dallas, but his home life is nowhere near as idyllic, or fulfilling, as his professional one. He has long since stopped working on anything but appearances in his marriage, a practice he likely inherited from his estranged alcoholic father (Jon Voight). But when his wife, Debbie (Renée Zellweger), discovers his infidelity, she digs deep to forgive him – on the condition that he joins her in volunteering at a local homeless shelter in order to put some shared purpose back in their marriage.
As Ron struggles to find the same joy that his wife experiences in helping the less fortunate in a hands-on manner, the couple meets Denver (Djimon Hounsou), a homeless man served by the shelter, who masks a gentle heart buried under a tough exterior built up over decades of accumulated injustice at the hands of society.
Motivated by her dream that featured Denver, Debbie pushes Ron to become friends with him, convinced they have what it takes to discover a life-changing friendship and ultimately heal each other’s wounds and brokenness. But just as her plan begins to bear real fruit, tragedy strikes.
