We have seen and read many love stories over the years and many have captured our hearts and minds. Stories like Romeo and Juliet have been adapted into other stories and movies, but the story of Helen of Troy is one of the most magnificent of them all. BBC One now brings you a spectacular adaptation of Helen in the new Troy – Fall of a City TV Series this February.

David Farr writes this adaptation that will be telecast over eight episodes directed by Owen Harris and Mark Brozel. The series is created in association with Netflix and will be on Netflix outside of the UK.

Troy – Fall of a City TV Series Plot
Told from the perspective of the Trojan family at the heart of the siege, Troy: Fall Of A City TV Series is a story of a love that threatens to bring an empire to its knees. Combining thrilling adventure with heartbreaking intimacy, it explores primal emotions, the psychological repercussions of human actions and life-changing decisions amid the devastation and destruction of war.
The story revolves around the Trojan Royal family, The Greeks, and The Gods. Priam has ruled Troy since he was a young man. He is married to Hecuba and father of Hector, Cassandra, Alexander, Deiphobus and Troilus. His father nearly ruined the city but Priam saved it from destruction and Troy now flourishes. Together, Priam and Hecuba have made it a powerful and wealthy city port.
Helen was born in Sparta and has lived there all her life. She is married to Menelaus, whose brother Agamemnon won her hand in competition, but it is a loveless match. She has a daughter, Hermione, but their relationship is strained. As the story begins, her unhappiness is beginning to become undeniable.
Zeus is the God of storms, tumult and justice, who holds ultimate power over both gods and mortals. He chooses not to take sides in the Trojan War, despite all attempts to engage his loyalty. He insists that even the Gods cannot change Fate, which will decide the outcome of the war. Zeus is married to Hera and father of many gods including Athena, Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis and Hermes.

Episode 1
Following a fateful encounter with the gods, the life of young herdsman Paris (Louis Hunter) changes forever. At the Troy city games he discovers something extraordinary about himself. Then, on a trip to Sparta as a guest of Menelaus (Jonas Armstrong) and Helen (Bella Dayne), he falls in love, with unpredictable and far-reaching consequences – provoking a conflict that threatens to bring an empire to its knees.
Episode 2
News of the shock elopement between Helen and Paris reaches Troy, as the pair arrive in the city to face the alarming consequences of their actions. In Sparta, Helen’s furious husband Menelaus (Jonas Armstrong) rages at her disappearance, and his brother Agamemnon (Johnny Harris) inspires a Greek army to attack Troy and get her back. Odysseus, King of Ithaca (Joseph Mawle) is sent for, but he is too unwell to join the coalition. Or is he?
Priam (David Threlfall) and Hecuba (Frances O’Connor) debate whether to send Helen back or face the repercussions. In Aulis, where the Greeks are gathered, the winds aren’t in their favour and the fleet can’t leave. The goddess Artemis (Thando Hopa) presents Agamemnon with an agonising dilemma that will test him to the full.
