After successful new Western TV series like Damnation and Netflix’s Godless, the genre lovers have another Western action in The Ballad of Lefty Brown movie releasing this week. Set in the vast plain s of Montana, the movie follows Lefty Brown as he goes on a journey to find truth about the murder of his mentor and boss.

Director Jared Moshe paints a vivid picture of 1860s Montana, where one of the state’s first major gold discovery. Shot on film against the backdrop of Montana’s spectacular landscape, The Ballad of Lefty Brown pays homage to classic American Westerns while raising contemporary questions of loyalty, honor and the cost of progress.

The Ballad of Lefty Brown Movie Plot
For his entire adult life, Lefty Brown (Bill Pullman) has ridden alongside legendary Montana rancher, lawman and now Senator Edward Johnson (Peter Fonda). But just before Johnson moves to Washington D.C. with his formidable wife, Laura (Kathy Baker), he’s killed in an ambush by horse thieves as Lefty watches helplessly.
Devastated by the death of his longtime boss and mentor, 63-year old Lefty sets off to avenge the murder. Riding through the western wilderness, Lefty befriends young gunslinger Jeremiah (Diego Josef) and reunites with his old friend, alcoholic U.S. Marshall Tom Harrah (Tommy Flanagan). The trio surrounds vicious horse thief Frank (Joe Anderson) and his gang, but the gunfight goes badly: Jeremiah is wounded and Frank eludes capture.
Lefty returns to Laura’s ranch for help only to learn he’s been charged with Edward’s murder. A wanted man, Lefty escapes and hides out in the brush, where he nurses Jeremiah back to health before traveling to the state capital for a showdown with Edward’s longtime friend, ambitious Governor Jimmy Bierce (Jim Caviezel).
